Program Overview

Your January in Berlin program lasts three weeks and is designed for students from all academic backgrounds. You will enroll in one CIEE course taught at CIEE Berlin. Enhance your experience with extracurricular activities while immersing yourself in German culture. Live and learn in Berlin!

Berlin is Germany's cosmopolitan city, celebrated for its mild winter climate and rich cultural heritage. January is the perfect time to experience the city's charm with fewer crowds while exploring iconic landmarks like the Brandenburg Gate and Museum Island and enjoying traditional winter festivities like the Berlin Winter World. Housing

CIEE Berlin offers a variety of housing options to ensure you're comfortable in your home away from home. Your accommodation preferences will be met in the form of residence halls, homestays, and shared apartments. Additionally, all housing options are located in neighborhoods with convenient access to public transportation, shops, and restaurants. Most students live in an on-campus residence hall with a mix of CIEE students and resident assistants.

CIEE’s excursions and cultural activities in Berlin will open doors for you to explore Germany's rich diversity, language, culture, history, and timeless beauty in ways that will enhance your time abroad.

Enjoy Berlin’s numerous cafés, street musicians, flea markets, pop up-stores, and galleries
Take in a performance at one of Berlin’s three major opera houses: the Deutsche Oper, the Berlin State Opera, and the Komische Oper
Sample your way through Berlin’s legendary street food – Döner Kebap, Currywurst, Market Hall IX, and much more

Academics

CIEE Berlin: Study in the heart of Berlin's Kreuzberg district, in close proximity to a large public market hall, plenty of restaurants and cafés, and various shops. CIEE Berlin features classrooms, student lounges, a study space, a student life office, an academic advising office, an on-campus café, and a dedicated outdoor space.

GAIN Travel Grants - Up to $1,500 toward travel costs guaranteed to students with a FAFSA SAI of $10,000 or less. Higher should still apply!

Gilman Go Global Grants - Up to $2,500/semester, $1,500/quarter, and $1,000 guaranteed to Benjamin A Gilman International Scholarship applicants.

Merit-Based Scholarships - Up to $2,500/semester, $1,500/quarter, and $750/summer awarded to students deomonstrating high academic achievement.
