Program Overview

Your January in Madrid program lasts three weeks and is designed for students from all academic backgrounds. You will enroll in one CIEE course taught at CIEE Madrid. Enhance your experience with extracurricular activities while immersing yourself in Spanish culture. Live and learn in Madrid!

Madrid is Spain’s cosmopolitan city, celebrated for its mild winter climate and rich cultural heritage. January is the perfect time to experience the city's charm with fewer crowds while exploring iconic landmarks like the Royal Palace and Retiro Park and enjoying traditional winter festivities like the Three Kings’ Parade. Program Highlights

Activities

CIEE’s excursions and cultural activities in Madrid will open doors for you to explore Spain’s rich diversity, language, culture, history, contemporary trends, vibrant art, and timeless beauty in ways that will enhance your time abroad.

Samples of past excursions and activities:

Soak up Spanish culture with visits to museums, urban art tours, and small family-owned shops throughout different neighborhoods
Learn about all the traditions related to the Three King’s Holiday in Spain and try a delicious roscón cake
Visit one of the largest and oldest outdoor Sunday markets in Europe, the Rastro

Academics

CIEE Madrid: Study in the historic center of Spain’s capital near Puerta de Sol, conveniently located near shops, cafés, tapas bars, theaters, museums, copy centers, and metro stations. CIEE Madrid features five classrooms, a student lounge, an academic advising office, and a student life office.

GAIN Travel Grants - Up to $1,500 toward travel costs guaranteed to students with a FAFSA SAI of $10,000 or less. Higher should still apply!

Gilman Go Global Grants - Up to $2,500/semester, $1,500/quarter, and $1,000 guaranteed to Benjamin A Gilman International Scholarship applicants.

Merit-Based Scholarships - Up to $2,500/semester, $1,500/quarter, and $750/summer awarded to students deomonstrating high academic achievement.
